Yes it is. I have this in a book on war photography. The caption reads:
"Densely packed Japanese soldiers stand shoulder to shoulder in a trench as they await a Russian attack. The officers are equipped with Europeans style swords, a practice discontinued during WW2 when the Japanese reverted back to their traditional samurai swords"
