Extended Description
WILMOT Brian Edmund. D.F.C. and Bar. Squadron Leader, Pilot J/23777, 415 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force died 21st August 1944 aged 21. Son of John Henry Allan Wilmot and Bertha Alice Wilmot, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. At rest in Stonefall Cemetery, Harrogate, Yorkshire.
Halifax NP720 damaged by flak and night-fighters, returned to East Moor airfield.

In the late evening of 12th August 1944 four aircraft from 432 Squadron were tasked with Ops to Brunswick and this followed a much larger bomber force that flew to Mont Richard earlier in the day. It took off from East Moor at 21.40hrs and was struck by flak and was later attacked by night-fighters and sustained damage. The pilot was able to return home to East Moor airfield and landed at 03.25hrs. For his actions on this night he was awarded a Bar to the DFC. He and his crew were a 415 Squadron crew flying a 432 Squadron aircraft, this appears to be a rare occurance.
