Lieutenant Colonel, Robert Norman LOCKHART, D.S.O
Late Royal Artillery. (Royal Garrison Artillery) (His memorial have his birth date as 26th June 1874) and died 30th June 1929. Other records have him being born on the 17 July 1873 to Thomas and Grace Lockhart in Cheadle Hume, Lancashire At the time of his death he was living at 51 Prince of Wales Road, Sliema. His effects went to John Leonard Lockhart, retired captain H.M. Army. At rest in Ta Braxia Cemetery, Malta.
Robert Norman Lockhart, Royal Garrison Artillery. Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant 16th March 1892, Lieutenant, 16th March 1895, Captain 3rd January 1900.
Medal Card for WW1 shows that he served with the Royal Garrison Artillery.
Robert arrived in France with the 23rd Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery on the 19th August 1915. The Siege Batteries were deployed behind the front line, tasked with destroying enemy artillery, supply routes, railways and stores. The batteries were equipped with heavy Howitzer guns firing large calibre 4, 6, 8 or 9.2 inch shells in a high trajectory.
