BUTLER, Claude. Private 26206, 7th, North Staffordshire Regiment killed in action 25th February 1917 aged 32 at Mesopotamia. He was the son of Herbert and Elizabeth. He is commemorated on a family memorial in Bentley Cemetery, Willenhall, Staffordshire and also on the Basra Memorial, Iraq. Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the 11th December 1915 aged 30 years and 8 months. He lived with his wife Lilian Doroth nee Gee and their son, Harold, born 4th April 1913 at 42, Wellington Place, Willenhall. He was married on the 9th December 1912 at Wolverhampton Registry Office. During his training he was at Rudgeley Camp, Cannock Chase, Staffordshire, from the 9th June 1916 to the 28th August 1916, then at Forest Hall Camp, Newcastle-upon-Tyne on the 29th August 1916 to the 13th October 1916 and he embarked for the Mediterranean on the 19th October 1916 where he was killed in action at Mesopotamia in the field. His wife had sent the army on a letter dated 28th May 1919 notifying them that he has now remarried and her surname was now Peech and living at 42, Summer Street, Willenhall,
