Extended Description
He was the wife of Sarah who died 1st June 1957 aged 78 He is at rest with his wife in St Mary's churchyard, Astbury, Cheshire
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the 10th June 1908 at Congleton, Cheshire aged 33 years and 10 months, and he was posted as Private 529 to the Cheshire Regiment. He had previously served with the 5th Volunteer Battalion, Cheshire Regiment. He lived at 17, John Street, Congleton with his wife Sarah and daughter Annie. He only did annual training and was not posted overseas. On the 31st March 1912 he re-engaged for a further 3 years with the 7th Battalion. On the outbreak of war he signed up on the 5th August 1915 (embodied service) and he was posted to the army reserve. On the 4th February 1915 he was called to the colours and was posted to the 2/7th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment. On the 6th December 1915 he was discharged medically unfit to pension at a Medical Board. He was discharged from Bedford. He was suffering from Paralysis of the left tibral nerve with deformity of the left foot (deformed toes). He refused an operation to correct this problem whilst in the army. On the 19th December 1916 he died at 5, Heywood Street, Congleton from influenza. He was Chelsea Pensioner 120989H
