M CHARLES OVENDEN. GUNNER ROYAL MARINE ARTILLERY OF HMS VULCAN. DIED 30 DEC 1904 AGED 41 OF DISEASE OF KIDNEY NEPHRITIS ON BOARD HIS SHIP. AT REST IN PLOT A GRAVE 99 KALKARA NAVAL CEMETERY, MALTA.
HE MAY HAVE BEEN THE SON OF GEORGE AND CAROLINE NEE TUNBRIDGE AND HUSBAND OF ALICE MARY NEE REDMAN. IN 1901 HE WAS AT SEA , HIS WIFE AND FOUR CHILDREN WERE LIVING AT 170 QUEENS ROAD PORTSMOUTH
IN 1901 THERE WAS A CHARLES BENJAMIN OVENDEN GUNNER ROYAL MARINE ARTILLERY AGED 36 FROM SHOLDEN KENT MARRIED AND ON BOARD HMS TRAFALGAR BERTHED AT PORTLAND DORSET. HE HAD PREVIOUSLY SERVED WITH THE ROYAL NAVY . BORN 24 AUG 1864 AT SHOLEBEN KENT. ENLISTED 7 OCT 1879 HIS LAST SHIP IN THE ROYAL NAVY WAS HMS AUSTRALIA.

M. Charles OVENDEN, Gunner, Royal Marine Artillery, HMS Vulcan. He died suddenly on board his ship 30th December 1904, aged 40 years. He left a widow and four children. An Inquest found he had died from inflammation of the kidneys. Buried in Kalkara Naval Cemetery.
