Catherine Connor O’Conner born 2 August 18658 at St Georges West End, London to James and Ellen O’Conner nee O’Connor. Died at the hands of husband 8 April 1902 at Camereta, Malta.
Her husband Gunner 3186 Robert William SHEA, aged 38 years, from Ireland, 3rd Royal Garrison Artillery murdered his wife Catherine SHEA, nee Connor by shooting her in the head in the bedroom of their married quarter at the Camerata, Valletta 9 April 1902 aged 32 years. Shea was tried before the Criminal Courts of Malta on 28 November 1902. His defence lawyer raised a plea of insanity and Shea was examined at the Lunatic Asylum Attard. Shea had never shown any signs of insanity but the jury, against medical opinion, found Shea not guilty on the grounds of being insane at the time. On 21 April 1903, Shea was moved to Broadmoor Lunatic Asylum. (No burial location found, possible at rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
