- Catherine BALL. Nurse VAD attached to 104th Nottingham Detachment.
Born 28 August 1890 at Leicester to John King and Catherine Ball, of 25, Trent Bridge Footway, Nottingham. She embarked along with other nurses and troops bound for Egypt on Transport Ship, HMS Osmanieh which struck a mine in Alexandria harbour 31 December 1917 aged 28. Her father was granted a gratuity 11 September 1918 revised 18 February 1921.

Official notification has been received by Mr J K Ball of 25, Trent Bridge footway Nottingham, that their daughter V.A.D. Nurse Catherine Ball was drowned at sea on December 31st off Alexandria. Miss Ball was on the same vessel as that from which another Nottingham nurse. Miss Winifred Maud Brown, VAD was lost. Prior to sailing for Egypt Miss Ball was at Bagthorpe Military Hospital, Arnot Hill, Mapperley Hall and the Bowden Hospitals in Nottingham and finally at Fakenham Military Hospital, Norwich.”
