Caroline Moore De GROOT. Staff Nurse AANS Serving at Colaba War Hospital, Bombay. Born 14 April 1892 at Benalla, Victoria, Australia to Henry Alfred and Isabella De Groot nee Moore.

Prior to enlistment she was a nurse at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne and resided at 64 Acland Street, St Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria Australia,

Enlisted 18 June 1917 age 25,

She embarked 30 June 1917 from Melbourne for Bombay on SS Somali disembarking, Bombay 30 July 1917 and posted the same day for duty in Colaba War Hospital, Bombay.

She attended 27 October 1918 the X-Ray Department at her hospital for a X-Ray on her thorax.

April 1918 she began to feel tired which increased as the weather got warmer.

She was admitted 1 July 1918 into Sisters Hospital. Colaba suffering from influenza and some cough. She was discharged to duty 05 July 1918. September she again began to feel tired and attacks of faintness, the 29 September she had another attack of faintness and during the night she became worse. The following day she was re-admitted with a fever of 104 F. She had no cough but the pain was worse on deep inspiration. There were no catarrhal symptoms. A distinct friction was heard above the liver. The fever continued and the friction persisted. 06 September 1918 signs of fluid were found at the right base. 16 October 1918 the pain was better and the friction had disappeared. She had improved in general condition, but her lungs now show more signs.
The Board considered that her disability was the result of climate, service in India. It was recommended she be granted 6 months leave to Australia.

The Medical Board assembled at Bombay 05 November 1918 where she was granted leave to proceed to Australia for six months by Ambulance Transport or any other ship and that she was not fit for duty on the voyage.

Her route to Australia was from Bombay via Suez.

11 December 1918 she was invalided from Bombay suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis on HMHS Devanha to Suez, Egypt, disembarking 23 December 1918. Transhipped to HMAT Nestor,A71, disembarked Suez, 25 December 1918. She travelled in a cabin and was nursed. Disembarking Australia 01 February 1919.

Discharged from the army on 28 February 1919.
In 1921 she was residing at Pyaling, Schuca, Victoria and passed away 30 October 1922 at Dandenong, Victoria, Victoria.
