Carmelo ZAMMIT. Leading Stoker K49010 Royal Navy on H.M.S. Louvain. Killed in action 20 January 1918 aged 30 years. Born 1888 to Paolo and Elizabetta Zammit. Husband of Carmela Zammit, of 92, Strada San Guiseppe, Valletta, Malta.
Commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Devon.
HMS Louvain used as a troop transport and was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UC-22 (Carl Bünte) in the Kelos Strait, in the Aegean Sea. 224 persons were lost.
