The BTR-80A is an upgunned version of the originial BTR-80. It's armed with the same 30mm 2A42 cannon that is fitted to the BMP-2 a PKT 7.62mm machine-gun is mounted coaxially to the right of the 30-mm cannon.
There is a bank of three 81mm electrically operated, forward firing smoke grenade launchers on either side of the cannon.
The turret is referred to as the modular weapon station (MWS).
