The following is compiled with additional information , courtesy of the Armed Forces Memorial Roll of Honour.

Those who have lost their lives since 1945. We shall remember them.

MAWDSLEY John Derek. Able Seaman SSX 849995, Royal Navy on H.M.S. Jamaica born 4th September 1930, died on Saturday8th July 1950 aged 19. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral and also on the Commonwealth Memorial at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery, Pusan, Korea

McBRIDE Alan Joseph. 2nd Lieutenant 417251, King's Regiment. Born 16th April 1932, killed in Korea 27th December 1952 aged 20. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral and he is at rest in United Nation Memorial Cemetery, Pusan, Korea.

SWORD John Richard. Sapper 23673006, Royal Engineers. Born 4th December 1940 and died in Cyprus 10th November 1959 aged 18. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral and he is at rest in Waynes Keep Cemetery, Nicosia, Cyprus

SWANICK Michael. Private 24302903, 1st Duke of Edinburghs Royal Regiment. He was killed by an IRA bomb during the attack on Sandes Soldiers home at Ballykinlar, Northern Ireland on the 28th October 1974 along with L/Cpl Alan Coughlan of the Royal Welch Fusiliers. The bomb was concealed in a delivery van parked on the opposite side of the road at Sandes home at the base. It exploded without warning causing the building to catch fire and collapse. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral . He is at rest in Landican Cemetery, Woodchurch, Birkenhead, Cheshire.

WEBSTER Andrew Martyn. Lance Corporal 24380552, 1st King's Regiment killed by a booby trap in West Belfast on the 9th May 1979 aged 20. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral and he is at rest in Christ Church Churchyard, Moreton , Wirral

MARSHALL T. There are three mentioned on the Armed Force Memorial. I have been unable to ascertain who is connected with the Wirral and surrounding area. In brief, they are the following. Tony. Leading Cook, Royal Navy on H.M.S. Sheffield died 4th May 1982 in the Falklands conflict. He lived at 3, Court, 10, Anson Close, Rowner, Gosport. WO2 Thomas Arthur Royal Army Medical Corps died 11th October 1968. He lived at 7, Fairnhill, Glasgow and Thomas Vincent Private with the R.E.M.E. died 27th April 1951. He is buried in Scunthorp, Lincolnshire. He lived at 63, Bushfield Road, Scunthorpe and died at the E.N.T. Hospital, Shrewsbury.

McLAUGHLIN Stewart Peter Frank. Corporal 24277023, 5 Platoon, B Coy 3rd Parachute Regiment. Died 12th June 1982 aged 27 on Mount Longdon, Falklands conflict. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral and he is at rest in Wallasey Cemetery, Rake Lane, Wallasey, Wirral. CH45.5DE

SMITH Steven Garry. Private 24407852, Cheshire Regiment died 6th December 1982 aged 24. He was killed, while off duty, by a bomb in the Droppin' Well public house in Ballykelly. Eleven soldiers and six civilians were murdered. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral and he is at rest in Landican Cemetery, Birkenhead, Cheshire

GARLAND Lee Stewart. Driver 24729214, Royal Corps of Transport died 5th May 1987 aged 22. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral

WEST Philip James. Lieutenant, C037055K Royal Navy on ship 849, NAS
Mk 7 Sea King Airborne Surveillance and Control (ASAC) helicopters collided over international waters in the Gulf on Saturday 22 March 2003, he was killed aged 32 along with others. He was born in Carlisle and moved with his parents to Hoylake, Wirral aged 10. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral, and he is at rest Budock Churchyard, Budock Water, near Falmouth.

KING Christopher. Guardsman 30030846 1st Coldstream Guards , from Birkenhead, killed in a explosion on the 22nd July 2009 aged 20, Helmand province, Afghanistan. GOLDSMITH Oliver Arthur. Driver 19043523, Royal Army Service Corps died in Malaysia on the 25th August 1950 aged 21 along with others including Driver Ray Thomas Wilson from Birkenhead, in a plane crash. His remains were found in 2008 by expeditions teams. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral and he is at rest in Cheras Road Cemetery, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

WILSON Roy ( Ray) Thomas. Driver14191793 Royal Army Service Corps died in Malaysia on the 25th August 1950 aged 21 along with others including Driver Oliver Arthur Goldsmith from Birkenhead, in a plane crash. His remains were found in 2008 by expeditions teams. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral and he is at rest in Cheras Road Cemetery, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

THOMAS W A There is no W.A. Thomas, commemorated on the Armed Forces Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas. The nearest is "Walter". Gunner 19048576, Royal Artillery died 13th December 1960. It may also be the following soldier. I stand corrected if it not the same person. Private 22294320 Albert William THOMAS. King's Regiment died on the 5th April 1970 aged 47. He was stationed at Park Hall Camp, Oswestry. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral and he is at rest in Whittington Cemetery, Shropshire.

HOLDEN A It may be the following. Andrew Anno, Junior Technician J8207201, Royal Air Force, stationed at RAF Gatow, Germany, formerly West Berlin. He died 24th October 1984 aged 22. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral. He is at rest in St Mary's churchyard, The Belfrey, Yorkshire.

DEELEY Damian John Beresford. Marine P053247W, Commando Logistics Regiment, Royal Marines died 29th May 1997. He died after falling during a rock climbing expedition at World's End ravine, Llangollen, North Wales. A Sea King rescue helicopter from RAF Valley airlifted him to hospital but he was dead on arrival. He is commemorated on a plaque that is part of the boundary wall of the Birkenhead Cenotaph, Hamilton Square, Wirral. He is at rest in Christ Church Cemetery, Bebington, Wirral. Merseyside. L63.8LX
