Alfred served in the Great War as Sergeant 45721, Royal Garrison Artillery having gained the rank 21st April 1918. He enlisted 27th August 1914 and was discharged 7th February 1919. He gave his address as 6 Radford Bridge Road Nottingahm the home of his parents then another as 40. Kimbolton Avenue, Lenton Sands, Nottinghamshire the home of his wife Ethel May nee Roger whom he married in Lenton parish church 5th December 1915 and his son. I can find no reference to his Military Medal award and it is not shown on his medal card, only the Victory and British War medals
