SPURGEON Bertie William. Private, 50017, 84th Coy., Machine Gun Corps, (Infantry), formerly 17469, Suffolk Regiment. Died 11th October 1917 at Military Hospital Cottonera . Born at St Clements, Ipswich. In 1911 He was living with his parents Arthur George and Agnes and his siblings at 38 Holland Road, St John's, Ipswich, Suffolk. His widow, Rose nee Page who he married in 1912 at Ipswich, Suffolk, was granted a war gratuity on the 27th February 1918. He was employed as a milk carrier.
NEILL James. Private, 316740, 13th Black Watch, Royal Highlanders, formerly 1539, Scottish Horse. Died 8th October 1917 of disease at Malta which he contracted while on active service at Gallipoli. Born at Aghadowey County Londonderry, Ireland and enlisted at Glasgow, Scotland, son of David who was granted a war gratuity on the 4th March 1918.
VENABLES William Broadhurst . Gunner, 292128, 43rd Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. formerly 125th Company, Palatine, Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died of dysentery, 3rd October 1917, aged 24 years. Son of William and Eleanor Venables, of 102 Urban Road, Sale, Manchester.
