Born 03 September 1917 to Samuel and Sadie Dowling of 14 Mountcashel Street, Belfast, Ireland.
Killed in action at sea on the sinking of SS Khedive Ismail on the 12 February 1944 aged 27 years.
The ship departed on the 6 February 1944 from Kilindini Harbour at Mombasa, Kenya to Colombo, Ceylon in Convoy KR-8. It was attacked on the 12 February 1944 and sunk by two torpedoes fired from a B1 type Japanese submarine in the Indian Ocean, 1,297 perished. Commemorated on the Brookwood 1939-1945 Memorial, Surrey
Mr and Mrs Samuel Dowling of Wood View, Bessbrook have received official intimation from the War Office that their only daughter, Sister Beatrice O. Dowling of Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service, is presumed to have been killed in action at sea in February last.
