I gather that the 88th Division was the best trained and equipped of the Nationalist Chinese divisions at the time - hence their deployment to Shanghai.
Straight to the meatgrinder that the Battle of Shangai and subsequent battle of Nanjing were… and sad to say about this soldiers is that the really lucky ones were the ones who got killed in combat.
