Badgeworth Holy Trinity Church War Memorial, Gloucestershire
This Tablet is dedicated to the men of Badgeworth who gave their lives in the cause of freedom 1914 - 1918.
BEACH, William George ( Memorial has William) Leading Seaman 216952, Royal Navy on HMS Idefatigable, died at sea on the 31st May 1916. Wills and Admin, Ancestry) He lived at 7, Abbots Cottages, Hatherley Road, Cheltenham. He was killed in action at sea. His effects went to William Beach, Gardiner.
He is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Devon
BEESLEY, Jeffery. Private, TR/1017, 94th Training Reserve died in England on the 7th April 1917 aged 18. He was the son of Edwin J and Sarah of 2, Hatherly Lane, Cheltenham. In 1911 he was living with his parents at 2, Redgrove Cottages, Gloster Road, Cheltenham. He is at rest in Holy Trinity Churchyard, Badgeworth, Gloucestershire.
Some notes from what remains of his army record.
He enlisted aged 17 years and 11months on the 13th October 1916 at Cheltenham. He was a gardener by occupation and lived with his parents at Redgrove Cottages. He was put on the army reserve to await mobilization. On the 17th January 1917 he was ordered to attend his medical at Cheltenham Town Hall without fail at 8 pm, he was now aged 18years and 2 months. The next day he was posted as Private TR/7/10107 to the 94th Training Reserve Battalion. Whie in training he reported sick to the Military Hospital Chisledon Camp on the 13th October 1917 suffering from being hot, thirsty, cough and having a 'thick head'. It was diagnosed he was suffering from Broncho Pneumonia. He died at 8pm in the hospital on the 7th April 1917.
BLISS, Jesse. Lance Corporal, 240908, 12th Gloucestershire Regiment, formery Private 3005, same regiment. He died of wounds on the 10th October 1917 aged 21. He was the son of William Walter and Eliza Ann Bliss, of Bramley Villa, Ewlyn Road, Leckhampton, Cheltenham. He is at rest in Godewaersvelde British Cemetery, Nord France.
CRANE, Charles Edward. 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry died 18th September 1914 aged 22. He was the son of Charles Arnold Crane, of The Reddings, Cheltenham; husband of Georgina Frances Sherbrooke (formerly Walker), of Abbots Morton, Worcestershire. Born at Birlingham, Worcestershire. He is at rest in Vally British Cemetery, Aisne, France.

2nd LIEUTENANT CHARLES EDWARD CRANE, 1st BATTN. THE DUKE OF CORNWALL'S LIGHT INFANTRY, was born on the 18th February, 1892, at the Manor House, Birlingham. Worcestershire, the son of Georgina Crane. He was educated at Oakfield, Rugby, from 1902-1905, Cheltenham College from 1905-10. and the R.M.C., .Sandhurst. 1911-12. At Cheltenham and Sandhurst he was in (he Rugby Football X\'. and also in the hockey team at Sandhurst.
NUNNEY, Harry Victor Cripps, brother of James Sidney and son of James and Sarah Nunney, of Hope Villa, Upper Hatherley, Cheltenham.
Some notes from what remains of his army record.
He enlisted on the 2nd November 1915 and was posted as Private 35105, to the 20th Welsh Regiment, (3rd Rhondda) at Kinmel Park, Training Camp, at Bodelwyddan, near Abergele, North Wales, aged 23 years and 4 months. He was living at 43, Darron Terrace, Ferndale, Glamorgan and was by occupation a labourer. He was born at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. On the 5th April 1916 he was transferred to the 3rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers and the transferred to the 4th Battalion on the 25th May 1916. On the 26th June 1916 he was transfered to the 7th Manchester Regiment as Private 5693. He was later transferred to the Labour Corps as Private 66497 and was posted to the British Expeditionary Force in France on the 7th March 1917 and he was sent back to England, sick on the 28th June 1918. On the 31st August 1918 he was posted to the Northern Command Labour Centre. From there he was transferred into Class W and was employed by H. Davis and Sons, Ferndale, Glamorgan. Date unknown, he was recalled to the colours and later he was discharged as being no longer physically fit for war service due to a disability, attributed by army service on the 15th January 1919 as private 53528, Labour Corps. He was suffering from Neurasthenia Pneumonia, Tachycardia. He was discharged aged 30 to his parents home at Hope Villa. (No record of a death was found for this soldier) He died in 1971 aged 85 at Gloucester.
NUNNEY, James Sidney. Driver, 17746, 14th Reserve Battery, Royal Field Artillery. Died in England, on the 30 January 1915. Age 22. Son of James and Sarah Nunney, of Hope Villa, Upper Hatherley, Cheltenham. He is at rest in Highland Road, Cemetery, Portsmouth,
RIMMELL, Reginald. Corporal 241130, 2/5th Gloucestershire Regiment died 12th September 1917 aged 20. He was the son of Ivo and Kate E of 3, Ivy Terrace, The Reddings, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. He is at rest in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. (The CWGC have Rimell)
ROBERTS, Albert Edward. (Memorial has Albert) Private 2563, B Company, 1/5th Gloucestershire Regiment died 6th July 1916 aged 22. He was the son of Mary Roberts, of Badgeworth Cross, Cheltenham, and the late John Roberts.
He is at rest in Hebuterne Military Cemetery, France.
WARING, Clarence Sidney.(Memorial has Sidney) Private 9729, 7th Royal Berkshire Regiment died 24th April 1917 aged 19. He was the son of Albert Henry and Annie Waring, of The Reddings, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. He is commemorated on the Doiran Memorial, Greece.
