B163 Stephen HAYDON

Joint grave with William Alfred EVANS.

Stephen HAYDON. Ordinary Seaman 227563, Royal Navy on HMS Goliath. Born 28th February 1888 at Portsmouth, Hampshire, He may have been the son of Henry and Maria, nee Howell. In 1891 he was living with his parents and siblings at 9 Wiltshire Place, Portsea. Enlisted 11th August 1903,occupation prior to enlistment, shoeblack. Died in a hospital in Malta 4th November 1908 aged 20 of a fractured of skull, compression of his brain, when he fell into a dry dock in Malta. Court of Inquiry found that no one was to blame and the Verdict at the Inquest was, accidental death. His brother was informed of his death 25th November 1908. At rest in Plot B Grave 163, Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta.
