Arthur William BROWN. John Henry CROSS. Edward BOXALL

BROWN Arthur William. Staff Sergeant 336, 81st (1/1st Home Counties) Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps. Died 19th July 1916 aged 31. He was the son of Harry and Catherine of 33, Carey Street, Maidstone, Kent. He was awarded the Cross of St George, 4th Class. (Russia) Inscribed on his memorial, "His loving mother, thy will be done."

CROSS John Henry Private 6953, 2nd East Surrey Regiment. he was wounded in Salonica and died in Malta on the 20th July 1916. He was born at Morden and lived at Wimbledon both in Surrey. His parents were Edward and Esther Ann nee Knight who in 1901 were living at number 1, Crown Shops, Morden. Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up on the 11th January 1915 aged 37 and 2 months. He was a labourer and lived at 48, Wandle Road, Wimbledon. with his wife and children. he married Edith Barbour on the on the 24th November 1898 at Morden parish church. According to his record he was posted to British Expeditionary Force in France on the 12th May 1915. No other records show his movement from France to the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force. Some time prior to the 19th July 1916 he was taken ill and was treated at 28th General Hospital, Salonica. On the 19th he was admitted into St George's Military Hospital, Malta from Hospital Ship, Valdivia. He was diagnosed as having Valvular Disease of the heart and that he was seriously ill. He died the following morning at 8am. He left a wife and 4 children. Margaret Edith Esther born 15th November 1899, Florence, born 17th April 1901, John, born 23rd July 1902 and George born on the 11th March 1908 all at Morden.

BOXALL Edward. Private 9337, 3rd Bedfordshire Regiment died 21st July 1916 aged 36 at St Georges Hospital, Malta. He was born in 1888 to James H and Emma Boxall of 12 Loves Row, Enfield. 1911 his widowed mother was living at 23 Lea Road, Enfield, he was in the army aged 24. Serving with the 2nd Bedfordshire Regiment at Bermuda and Jamaica.
