Alfred Henry ANCHOR Royal Navy 1870 – 1941

Son of Charles William and Harriett M Anchor, Husband of Cinderella Lily nee Rose. In 1881 he was living with his parents at 30 Opler Street, Portsmouth.

Naval Record UK, Royal Navy Registers of Seamen's Services, 1848-1939 shows the following

He was born 8th December 1870 at Portsmouth, Hampshire. Occupation prior to enlistment, labourer. He served from the 26 February 1890 for a period of twelve years, starting rank, stoker 2nd class on HMS Asia, promoted to stoker class 1 1 August 1891, leading stoker class 2 10 August 1898, leading stoker class 1 6 April 1901. His last ship was HMS Duke of Wellington, went to shore service time expired 28 February 1902.

Commemorated on a family cross, along with his son Alfred Henry ANCHOR. Royal Navy, Lieutenant Commander 1912 – 1969. Served at one time on HMS Calcutta.

Both at rest in St Stephen’s Churchyard, Fylingdales, Yorkshire
