HAYDON Gilbert. Private 2781, 1/5th Gloucestershire Regiment. Born 1889 to Robert Henry and Annie Haydon of Chipping Campden. 1891- 1901 residing with his parents at Church Street, Chipping Campden. 1911 boarding at the home of widow, Gertrude Mary Tomlinson of 11 Park Avenue, West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire. Occupation, bank clerk. Died 27 August 1916 age 27. His mother was granted a war gratuity 10 January 1917, revised 16 September 1919. Commemorated on his family headstone in Chipping Campden Churchyard, also on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

PAYNE Thomas Henry. Lance Sergeant 19563, 1st Grenadier Guards. Born 1895 to Thomas and Sarah Ann Payne.nee Cherry. 1901 residing with his parents and siblings at Westlington, Chipping Campden. 1911 his parents and siblings were residing at Watery Lane, Chipping Campden. 1911 he was a footman to the Riddin family at Swinburn Barrasdord, Northumberland. At the time of his death his parents were residing at 7 Aston Road, Campden. Died 10 September 1916 age 21. His mother was granted a war gratuity 13 September 1917 revised 16 September 1919. At rest in Guillemont Road Cemetery, Guillemont, France.

JAMES Frank. Private 7511, 1/23rd London Regiment, Born 1895 at Chipping Campden to John and Elizabeth Lucy James. 1891 residing with his parents and siblings at Lower High Street, Chipping Campden, 1901 living with his siblings at his grandparents’ home in Chipping Campden. At the time of his death his parents were residing at 45 Stadium Street, Chelsea. His mother was granted a war gratuity 11 April 1817 revised 10 October 1919. Died 16 September 1916 age 21. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme.

SMITH Owen. Corporal 3628, 1/8th Post Office Rifles, London Regiment. formerly 371429, some regiment. Born 1885 to Thomas William and Sarah Ann Smith, nee Hearl of the Square, Chipping Campden. 1891-1901 residing with his parents and siblings at High Street, Middle of Row, Chipping Campden. 1911 still with his parents and siblings at The Square, Chipping Campden, occupation, postman. Died 7October 1916 age 31. His mother was granted a war gratuity 9 May 1918 revised 11 October 1919. He is commemorated on a family headstone in St James Churchyard, Chipping Campden, also commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme

HANDS Leslie Hickman. Private B/23339, 11th Royal Fusiliers. Born 1896 to Henry Joseph and Rose Ellen Hands nee Roberts. 1901 residing with his parents and siblings at High Street, Chipping Campden. 1911 with his parents and sister, Winifred at 34 Drummond Road, Bouremouth. At time of his death his mother was residing of “Cotswold”. Keswick Road, Boscombe, Bournemouth. Died 4 March 1917 age 21. His father was granted a war gratuity 1 August 1917 revised 27 October 1919. At rest in St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France.

MERRIMAN Francis William. Private 7335, Worcestershire Regiment. Born 1884 at Chipping Campden to George and Elizabeth Merriman, nee Tracey. His parents were married 18 September 1864 at St James Church, Chipping Campden. 1891 residing with his parents and siblings at Broad Campden, Chipping Campden. 1901 residing with his widowed mother Elizabeth at Sheep Street, Chipping Campden. Occupation, farm labourer. Husband of Julia Merriman nee Higgins. 1911 residing with his wife and son, Francis William at 8 Sheep Street, Chipping Campden. Occupation, labourer, and army reservist. At date not known he was still at the Regimental Depot prior to his death. He died at Voluntary Aid Detachments (VAD) Hospital, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire 12 April 1917 age 32. His widow was granted a war gratuity 2 August 1917 revised 30 October 1919. At rest in St James churchyard, Chipping Campden

KEELEY George Charles. Private 37851, B. Coy,12th Gloucestershire Regiment. Born 1885 to James and Mary Ann Keeling, nee Franklin. 1891-1911 residing with his parents and siblings at Lower High Street, Chipping Campden. 1901, occupation, teamster on a farm. (working with horses) 1911 occupation, carpenter on a farm. Husband of Mabel Margaret Keeley nee Biggerstaff of 6 Sheep Street, Campden. Killed in action 8 May 1917 age 31. His widow was granted a war gratuity 30 August 1917, revised 28 October 1919 and 10 January 1920. Commemorated on the Arras memorial, France
