Born 22 August 1887 at 13 Moss Street, Bethnal Green, London to Charles and Georgina Lamb.

Died 29 December 1941 at 22.16 hrs at Military Hospital Shenley, Hertfordshire from her illness aged 54. At rest in Godlingston Cemetery, Swanage, Dorset

Adeline Lamb of Happy Landings, Swanage, Dorsetshire, spinster. Died 29 December 1941 at Shenley Hospital, near Radlett, Hertfordshire. Her effects went to Sarah Maud Roake wife of John Roake.

Notes from her service records 1916 to her death 1941
Joined the QAIMNSR 01 November 1915 and posted to 1st Fargo Military Hospital, Salisbury Plain.
06 June 1917 she arrived for duty at 49th General Hospital Salonica. She returned to UK on the 17 February 1919
26 September 1919 to 22 April 1922 India.
1 December 1924 Sister at King Edward VII Hospital, Bermuda.
Re-enlisted in 1935 and nursed at Netley Royal Victoria Hospital, Hampshire and Woolwich, Kent
2 September 1939 she embarked on S.S. Orion for duty at 2/5th General Hospital, Egypt, then to South Africa. 27 December 1940 she was on a medical board at Addington Hospital, Durban, Natal with a disability. Scirrhous Carcinoma of right breast.
16 May 1941 she was a direct admission from overseas into 29th General Hospital, Ormskirk, Lancashire, suffering from carcinoma – mammal. She was later discharged to duty 20 May 1941.
Permanent address c/o Mrs Bath, Happy Landings, Swanage, Dorset.
July 1940 in Egypt.
08 July 1941 posted for duty at Millbrook Isolation Hospital, Southampton

Medical Board 11 August 1941 held at Bovington Camp Military Hospital.
Disability. Scirrhous Carcinoma of right breast.

She was admitted to this hospital 23 July 1941 and has been in bed ever since. Complaining of intense pain lower part of back and right legs.
Her present condition -
She is a bed patient and appears to be rapidly deteriorating in her condition.
X-Ray dated 25 July 1941 shows, - carcinoma Lumbo-sacral region which is a secondary growth to the scirrhus of right breast which was removed November 1940.
Prior to admission into this hospital, she had been receiving treatment at Bovington Military Hospital by M.O. i/c of Families Hospital.
The board recommended that she remains in hospital and await further instructions.

Brief extracts
Disease Carcinoma lumbo-sacral spine secondary to carcinoma right breast
October 1940 developed pain right breast. Operated on November 1940 at Durban Military Hospital. Returned to U.K. for duty April 1941. On 12 May she states she jerked her back while on board ship, back very painful sent to Ormskirk Military Hospital on the 16 May on disembarking. She was transferred to Bovington Military Hospital. On examination, extreme tenderness over lower lumbar and sacral region and down course of sciatic nerve in both legs. X-ray shows definite carcinoma lumbo sacral spine.

She was transferred from Bovington Camp Military Hospital (Families) on the 08 September 1941 and admitted same day into Military Hospital Shenley. Transferred to Middlesex Hospital 19 October 1941
At date not recorded she was transferred to Military Hospital Shenley where she passed away on the 29 December 1941 at 22.16 hrs from her illness.
