The Vickers Medium Tanks, Mks I & 2 were the principal inter-war tanks of the British Army.
Here, a column of Mk IIs make their way across Salisbury Plain during pre-war exercises.
The tank in the foreground is in fact a Mk II* CS...the close support version of the tank which was armed with a 3.7" howitzer in place of the 47mm QF 3 pounder.
Such tanks were primarily intended to lay down smoke cover.
The circular tactical mark indicates that these are tanks of "C" Sqaudron.

These BAMFs were from 2/5 Infantry Battalion, one of only two units in the 2nd AIF to have fought all three of our enemies during the war.
