Access to the territorial waters of Turkey in the Aegean sea was closed for a patrol of the NATO ships. Because of the actions of Ankara, the monitoring group of the Alliance are unable to proceed to the monitoring of migratory routes between Turkey and Greece.

Turkey meanwhile "is showing little to no interest" in taking back migrants picked up by the NATO vessels at sea as they attempt to make the perilous crossing to Greece

If migrants are collected by NATO they will be delivered to the Turks and they dont want that, perhaps they believe they will have fewer to deal with if they are left to die in rough seas.

Turks probably think that EU left them in that mess. There should have been financial help, symbolic at least, but there is none. It is frustrating that this institution cannot work united in a crisis.
