The deranged shopkeeper who treats his customers like crap outraged when they choose to shop elsewhere

If Europe moves ahead, Washington may review waivers under existing defense trade deals, potentially restricting EU firms’ access to U.S. contracts even as nearly two-thirds of EU imported weapons come from the U.S.

The US has for a long time asked Europe to invest more money in their defense capability.

Then they do it. Then we complain? I am glad the EU is starting to take this more seriously.

But I will harp on one point. I really hope they take logistics as seriously as the latest whizbang wunderwhopper gear. At least to the theater logistics level. I get that a true global logistics capability is probably currently unrealistic.

Meanwhile US itself is so very open to buying weapons abroad... How are we supposed to have strong industry for wartime if we don't buy domestic equipment?
The US manufacturers have also been reluctant for a very long time to set up factories in Europe. The South Koreans and Israelis jumped into the space left open.

So many own goals over the last decade.

WSJ made a video about Finnish nuclear shelter. Now I am curious, how are these coming along in rest of Europe, or are they expecting active missile defense to do the job?

The Dutch government has stated that they will not build shelters as they do not view them as useful. Political speak for "we didn't plan city development with this in mind and it would cost more than we care to spend. Not our problem".

They advise people to go to parking garages instead (uncommon outside of major cities).

No doubt the royal family has gotten a fancy new bunker at the tax payer's expense and the cabinet is set up as well.

Yeah, we made it into a law so those buying apartment paid the bill (except in these cases like luola). It would be quite expensive to try to do that afterwards.

They are quite useful:

And yet another Euro-programme with problems involving France...

Does anyone else find this reminiscent of the FCAS affair?

While France withdraws from the European Patrol Corvette programme, Spain and Italy (through Navantia and Fincantieri) are strengthening their agreements to move forward by signing an MoU for the establishment of a joint venture.

... They are unhappy with a corvette being underarmed, and are going to build OPVs instead ... which as a class are even more lightly armed ... 🫠

France is expanding it's nuclear arsenal and will no longer be stating how many warheads it has (currently 290).

Tusk has said that Poland may eventually acquire nuclear weapons. A recent poll shows that a small majority of the population currently supports this.
