No worries nothing happened and nobody died. [CCP Officials]

It was just the facade.

I don't know if this is to be trusted. If I look at this vid from 0:28 it looks burned out in the interior too....and this thick smoke you instantly collapse in such smoke.

No firefighters can get there in time through such thick smoke. Its very hard under full protection and they have to be careful too.

So sounds very fishy as usual from China.

Oshkosh Defense LLC, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, is awarded a $23,709,168 contract for the procurement of Remotely Operated Ground Unit for Expeditionary Fires (ROGUE-Fires) carriers for use in the Navy/Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS). NMESIS is a land-based missile launcher platform that provides the Marine Corps High Mobility Artillery Rocket System battalions and operating forces with anti-ship capabilities. NMESIS integrates a Naval Strike Missile (NSM) launcher unit, capable of launching two NSMs, onto a ROGUE-Fires carrier. NMESIS makes extensive use of proven sub-systems, such as the Oshkosh Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) chassis. Work is expected to be completed in November 2023. Marine Corps Systems Command, Program Manager Long Range Fires, Quantico, Virginia, is the contracting activity.

The U.S. Marine Corps wants to be able to sink ships, and it wants that ability fast. NMESIS is envisioned to provide anti-ship fires from land as part of an integrated naval anti-surface warfare campaign. The Marine Corps’ GBASM solution consists of an unmanned JLTV-based mobile launch platform, called the Remotely Operated Ground Unit for Expeditionary Fires (ROGUE-Fires), and the Naval Strike Missile (NSM). The NSM is the same missile used by the navy for the over the horizon weapon system deployed on littoral combat ships. The Naval Strike Missile (NSM) is an anti-ship and land-attack missile developed by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA). Part of the move will be to give Marines their own ability to take on enemy ships. As the Marine Corps reorganizes to prepare for a potential conflict with China, the service is considering three new Marine Littoral Regiments (MLR).

The U.S. Marine Corps asked for 29 of the Norwegian-designed NSMs in the initial budget request and the additional unfunded ask would bring the total to 64 to outfit the service’s first operational, Navy-Marine Corps Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS) equipped with a medium-range missile (MMSL) battery by Fiscal Year 2024. NMESIS could create a no-go zone for enemy ships until friendly forces return. NMESIS consists of two NSMs and a launcher/weapon control system integrated onto a ground-based, remotely operated carrier (called ROGUE-Fires). Alternately, NMESIS could defend beachheads from enemy naval attack. It will provide a ground-based anti-access/area denial, anti-ship capability. This quantity would provide two combat loads for Marine Corps MMSL batteries.

It's a bit like when Stalin arrested the party members at one of the congresses and even filmed it

Since stepping down as CCP leader in 2012, when Hu was praised by the party media for stepping down from power - in sharp contrast to Xi - he has been largely off the stage. Many of his former allies were arrested during Xi's purges, including his main aide Ling Zhihua in 2015. Hu was connected to a power network of former Communist Youth League leaders, just as Xi had been before; well, it appears that this faction has now been effectively destroyed."

IDK but he is able to quickly change tune in contrast to Merkel. He also shut down NS2 to the surprise of Russia.

During the weekend he said nothing has been decided yet.

He knows Rieckhof well a supervisory board at HHLA whom accepted the Chinese offer for a "strategic takeover".

Don't know if Scholz wants to be drawn in there.

COSCO is already blackmailing if tehy don't get teh port they won't direct traffic there anymore but instead to Antwerpen and Rotterdam which they own. What a free, not blackmailing and independent company COSCO is.

So you can see how they want to use their influence. Moreover they get access to shipping data and such.

I guess by them blackmailing this deal can't be completed because of teh new China investment mechanisms.

They also own US ports btw.

How is it that Olaf Scholz is still tolerated?
You would think that any offer by China would a NO in response. Does Australia still have Chinese owned port facilities?

They *still* hold a 99yr lease in Port Darwin. For now. They have also been allowed to overly invest and create a bunch of b*llshite, in institutions of higher learning in the US. Biden best get his ass busy.

Not sure how the West is going to deal with the quantity of corrosive China investments, even from just the perspective of short to long term economic repercussions. The resources to monitor such Chinese activities in country must be sizable.

Not notwithstanding Aussie has stood up to China at its own cost. Respect.
The marching out of the ex president who kinda looked like he was off to get one into the back of the skull wasn't a clear enough message then nothing ever will be. Arm Taiwan and stop pretending or do not pretend to help later after its all escalated as it all happened in Ukraine.
Biden says he would sent Americans in. Well if Taiwan is on the back foot early more Americans instead of Ukrainians get killed. So Biden as is usual all talk and only reacts after the fact you can see where that is going.

*Interesting* article from Aug.

“The PLA deployed some electronic warfare aircraft such as the J-16D and warships to try to locate Pelosi’s aircraft, but were not successful,” the report said.

“Almost all the PLA electronic warfare equipment couldn’t work because they were all jammed by electronic interference by the American aircraft strike group sent by the Pentagon to escort her.”

Pelosi’s aircraft reportedly took a longer and more indirect route, heading southeast toward the Indonesian part of Borneo. After that, it turned north and flew along the eastern part of the Philippines.
According to He Yuan Ming, an independent airpower analyst, it is not surprising that the Type 055 was not able to detect Pelosi’s aircraft, who noted that “the Type 055 (destroyer’s) radar is said to be 500-kilometer (310 miles),” but its “effective range in the real world would be much less.”

“Couple this with the vast operating area as well as the Type 055’s relative newness both in terms of its hardware (capabilities) and software (crew), there should be little surprise that the PLA (naval) cruiser could not locate (Pelosi’s plane),” Ming told SCMP...

Much of the focus on this thread is about China, but a lot of things are happening in the other parties in the area. In the Philippines, with the pro American Marcos winning the election, there are massive movements in terms of co developing military bases that can be jointly used by the Philippine Armed Forces and the Americans. The Philippines is also talking about granting the Japanese Armed Forces the same coverage as the Amerivan Visiting Forces Agreement.

Probably the first time since Tiananmen where mass crowds are calling for the resignation of a CCP leader and for liberty/freedom.

It's not a calamity yet but this is the first crack.

"Kadena is uniquely ill-positioned for permanently basing large numbers of American aircraft, given the Chinese military’s large investment in long-range precision strike capabilities. The volume of fires that Chinese forces can direct against Kadena makes it more vulnerable to than other bases in the First Island Chain..."
