Isn't/Wasn't Fico a Putler friend? Together with this other guy Pellegrini? Another Hungary on the EUs teets?

"Fico and Pellegrini put all the blame on the West, the EU and America and relativize Russia's attack on Ukraine." At the same time, however, Slovakia is so economically dependent on other countries such as the Czech Republic that it cannot afford to decouple from the EU.

"The mobilization of voters was massive," said Tomislav Delinic, head of the Slovakian office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. "Pellegrini succeeded in scoring points in the government camp, among national minorities and nationalists, right through to anti-system and pro-Putin supporters."

Like always all kinds of weirdos mobilized to "bring USA down"

Shot in stomach, arm and leg.

An update was just posted on Robert Fico's Facebook page.

It says the Slovak PM was "shot multiple times and is currently in a life-threatening condition" and that he is being transported by helicopter to the nearby town of Banská Bystrica.

Don't forget about this:

Thanks that's an important insight Chomiq.

The shooter has been identified as Juraj Tsintula, 71 - an outspoken member of the liberal party Progressive Slovakia reported to hate Slovakia's ruling parties. I know nothing of Slovakian politics, so please correct this as needed.

71-year-old Juraj Cintula was supposed to assassinate Prime Minister Robert Fico . As reported by JOJ 24, Juraj Cintula is a writer from Levice, he is a member of the Slovak Writers' Association, in the past he worked as an SBS driver in a shopping center. He was supposed to publish a document Against Violence on the Internet and wanted to found a political party, the Movement Against Violence.

"Violence is often a reaction of people, as a form of expression of simple dissatisfaction with the state of affairs. Let's be dissatisfied, but not violent!," he wrote at the time.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Well, I loathe Fico and his pals who behave in an unacceptable way in parliament today...but this is pretty disturbing.

I hope Fico gets better because I don´t want him to die from this, I cannot wish this on him...and also because Slovakia deserves better than to have him as a some kind of martyr and have schools and squares named after him.

Very strong and worrying words for the future of free press from the government coalition but the culprit is not the one they want: 71 year old guy who looks like a poor fellow, but also a member of the "Slovenskí Branci" a paramilitary group very close to Russia.

His motives are political: government control of The public TV and radio networks and brutal changes of people in cultural and justice departments.

Fico is always challenging g the line if democracy

PS is a young movement very popular with young Slovaks and Slovaks living abroad. I don´t think Cintula is a member of PS. PS gets little votes in small towns where people are more conservative.

The levický (Levický) and levický (left) are written with different syllables but with the same form. And in Gugli it is translated as leftist (in English and Hungarian. I checked), so in Western newspapers the label of assassin is also used to describe leftist.

Clearly an attempt aimed to deprive the citizens of their gun permits.

This assassin is really such that he doesn't care whether it's a pro-Russian organisation, a liberal group or an anti-Fico protest, as long as he is radical and acts out his tendencies.
According to Markíza, all this happened on 24 April, and Cintula was spotted on video among a handful of protesters. At the time, the assassin was shouting "Long live Ukraine", "Traitors", "Enough of Fico". The television added that the protest also included banners supporting RTVS

In connection with the assassination attempt on Robert Fico, the police will be monitoring social media platforms closely.
....We value democracy and freedom of expression, but hate speech and threatening comments contribute to further escalation of the situation.

Not sure about that pic that I saw come from a lot of pro russian twitter accounts but not from our media, including the one closer to the PM.

Pro Russian accounts also added that his wife, a Ukrainian citizen was also arrested.

I know the media does not hold always a high reputation, but social networks can clearly disinform with the appearance of being "the real thing". Earlier, we had on twitter and even on a relevant french radio network that the shooter was from PS (progresivne Slovensko).

I think there will be a lot of turbulence because this is not the type of shooter the SMER party can use to attack the opposition. But then again, all of the investigation remains fluid.

On a brighter note, Peter Pellegrini, president elect and close to the ruling coalition and Zuzana Caputova close to the opposition and incumbent president who did not run from reelection (and was labelled by one of the talking heads of SMER an American "whore") made a common statement. Best news since yesterday.

Levice is the town where the shooter is from.

Poke @PegAsus

The medical condition is not fully disclosed. the wounds are extremely serious. The situation has been stabilized but the doctor reserve their progrosis for the next 4 days. He was shot at close distance in the abdomen and arm. there are between 3 and four shots that hit the man.

Regardless, walking, eating solid food will be months away. I highly doubt he returns to office. he will be a disminished man for a long time. Kalinak is a real disaster and a threat for democracy but he might take over.

----

The new minister of the interior and coalition did lots of changes in the police and secret service, and there are a lot of voices saying that the presidential protection group was totally incompetent and did many mistakes: among them not screening visually the crowd. but normally these kind of towns are real turf for the SMER politicians and old people are mostly voters of the coalition...

mistakes that former police chief Hamran noted were>

1) Not screening the crowd
2) Not focused enough on the PM: some bodyguards went to immobilize the shooter instead
3) They did not leave immediately. had there been multiple shooters, the situation could have been worse
4) Hesitation on what hospital to go to

EDIT: saw the vid...one guy reacted after 3 or four seconds, noone covered the body of the PM to protect him from further shots, he even falls on the ground. One guy runs away to who knows where.

Video in the article below
