"Russia continues trying to restart its offensive in Ukraine, but the battlefield picture tells a different story. Ukrainian strikes are hitting key Russian assets, including an aircraft repair plant and expensive air defense systems, while equipment losses continue to mount. At the same time, Russia’s attempts to regain momentum near Pokrovsk appear costly and limited. Ukrainian defenses are holding, weather and technology like Starlink are shaping operations in the south, and even Russian leadership is raising questions about battlefield communications.Meanwhile, geopolitical distractions — including shifting Western attention toward Iran and delays in weapons deliveries — are complicating the broader strategic picture. In this update, we break down the latest strikes, battlefield developments, and strategic signals shaping the war today." - Professor Gerdes.

"Russia launched nearly 500 drones and missiles overnight in one of the largest aerial attacks of 2026, striking multiple Ukrainian cities and causing damage in Kharkiv residential areas. But Ukraine responded quickly—launching drone strikes inside Russian territory, destroying a Shahed drone base with ATACMS, and continuing to push Russia’s Black Sea Fleet farther from Ukrainian waters. Meanwhile, President Zelenskyy visited frontline troops in the Donetsk region and warned that Russia may be preparing a major spring offensive, even as Ukrainian forces reported repelling multiple assaults near Huliapole." - Professor Gerdes.

"Ukraine’s Record-Breaking Day: Drone Warfare Reaches New HeightsUkraine has officially shattered all previous records for Russian drone interceptions, marking a 30% increase over the prior all-time high. This strategic surge coincides with the deployment of advanced Ukrainian drone technology operating at frequencies exceeding 10,000 MHz, effectively bypassing Russian detection systems to strike critical infrastructure and military assets deep behind enemy lines.Record-Breaking Defense: Ukraine intercepted 98 out of 117 Russian strike drones, while simultaneously setting a new record for Russian UAV losses on the battlefield at 2,558 units.Massive Secondary Detonations: A major strike on a Russian military factory and ammunition depot near Donetsk airport resulted in prolonged secondary explosions, signaling the destruction of high-value Shahed drone storage sites." - Professor Gerdes.

"Russian air defenses were supposed to be one of the most formidable systems in the world, built around layers of radars, missile batteries, and electronic warfare designed to stop exactly the kind of drone attacks Ukraine is now launching. But recent strikes suggest those defenses are increasingly vulnerable. Ukrainian drones are destroying radar systems in Crimea, hitting Pantsir and Tor air-defense platforms, and striking infrastructure Russia once believed was safely out of reach. At the same time, the broader battlefield continues to shift—with record numbers of drone strikes, Russian equipment losses mounting, and Ukrainian forces increasingly integrating unmanned systems into their operations. In this video we examine how Ukraine’s drones are exposing weaknesses in Russia’s defenses and what that could mean for the future of the war." - Professor Gerdes.
