Ukrainians aren't fighting for every inch like russians would, if a position becomes untenable they will vacate it if possible. That's why russia is fighting the way it is. Expose the flanks to make the Ukrainians withdraw before risking encirclement.

Anyone who thinks that Putin will cede any of the annexed territories is delusional. He has already included the territories in the constitution, is investing and will not return them unless something completey changes in favor of ukrainian advances

So what if he will lose his relationship with his bff Drumpf? What will change for him? Trump arming the Ukrainians to the teeth? I doubt it, and no american or european would pay for this. And as Musashi said, the lack of soldiers combined with the lack of equipment is the result of the Russian advance for months. At the moment they are defending themselves bravely but without any chance of counterattacking.

Until there is a clear consensus among the allies about what should happen with Ukraine, little will change even with Trump in power. That is, if Trump doesn't tell Ukraine to actually cede the territories. Unfortunately, it is not possible to know now.
