The perpetrator, Saudi national Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, got life in prison today. He was also declared ineligible for parole and ordered to be taken into indefinite preventive custody subsequent to serving his sentence.

Religion had no bearing on his motives. The trial substantiated claims about his state of mind (quite ironic, considering he's a psychiatrist). It emerged during the proceedings that he's a raging narcissist and fits into the "disgruntled worker" mould of spree killers.

Originally, Abdulmohsen had intended to massacre his colleagues at the psychiatric hospital where he worked, and where he was about to be dismissed over negative work reviews. Colleagues described him as lazy and incompetent, yet still he claimed to be the hospital's best psychiatrist. He couldn't come up with a viable plan, though, so he decided that taking out his anger on civilians was the next best thing.

During the trial, he pulled out a narrative that he hated all Germans for being too soft on Islam, but prosecutors dismissed that claim as just another sign of his narcissism showing, presenting evidence in the form of text messages proving he was simply angry for not getting the recognition he felt he deserved volunteering for an initiative that helps Muslim apostates seeking asylum in Germany.

Narcissism is a surprisingly common trait among psychiatrists.

Here's the perp. Doesn't really look like Jason Bourne. Ukrainian citizen, born in 1987. Interpol handed out red notice for her arrest, she was caught on CCTV casing the apartment days before and she was also seen placing the backpack and fleeing the scene after the bombing. She was living in Germany, where she fled to in a rented car. Yesterday she was found dead buried in shallow grave near Kiev, shot in the head.

The suspected bomber behind an assassination attempt on a Ukrainian oligarch in Monaco has reportedly been found dead with gunshot wounds in Ukraine.

Also, that wasn't his wife that was wounded in attack, but his mistress.

Two suspects were already arrested in Ukraine, one is an active Ukrainian military intelligence officer and another is ex law enforcement member.

Police had been hunting Anastasiia Berezovska after a Ukrainian millionaire was injured in the blast.

Berezovska arrived in Ukraine two days after the attack on 1 July, the SBU said in its statement, citing law enforcement sources.

Two suspects met Berezovska in a car on a highway in the Kyiv region two days later, the office of Ukraine's prosecutor general told the BBC.

"The victim traveled a certain distance with them, after which she was killed."

The SBU said she had communicated with her family and two men after entering Ukraine - a former law enforcement officer and a current officer in Ukraine's Main Directorate of Intelligence, an agency of the Ministry of Defence.

The two men were investigated as possible accomplices in the Monaco attack based on information they repeatedly transferred funds to Berezovska's "crypto and bank accounts".

The intelligence officer subsequently confessed to Berezovska's murder and said he had done so with "another suspect", the agency said.

Both men have since been charged with "intentional murder committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons".

The SBU said a basement room "resembling a torture chamber" had also been found during a search of the former law enforcement officer's home in the Kyiv region.

Ukraine's prosecutor general said it had "no evidence" the room had been involved in Berezovska's case and that it "simply reflect the profile of one of the suspects".

His office released a video of the room, which showed a mat dotted with what appear to be small spots of blood. Two axes, a pickaxe, tarpaulin spread on the floor and a large bag are also visible.

Two men with links to Ukraine's security services are accused of killing Anastasiia Berezovska and dumping her body in woods.

In his revised version, he claimed that the two men had driven in his BMW to pick up Berezovska on the highway to Kyiv because she "needed to be hidden" in connection with "a criminal matter".

He doesn't clarify what that was.

On the way, Reut says Zhykovych produced a modified Makarov pistol from his rucksack and loaded it. When he protested, he says Zhykovych claimed it was just a precaution "in case she panics".

After collecting Berezovska he says he was directed to drive towards the village of Yuriv where all three got out on a forest path.

There Reut says Zhykovych ordered him to shoot, saying: "It's either her or us."
In Reut's telling, Zhykovych then killed Berezovska himself, with four shots, before the pair dug a grave and hid her body.

He says Zhykovych then threw the gun into a nearby lake along with her belongings.

But if Reut didn't shoot her, why would he confess?

He now says he was threatened by Zhykovych. "He said, 'If anything happens to me, your relatives are in danger'," he claims.

Zhykovych's lawyer rejected that new account.

Seems like they considered themselves patriots and viewed Yarmoliev as a traitor for doing business in Crimea after renouncing his Ukrainian citizenship, so an assassination plan was formed. I wonder who else is involved in this...
