Guided missile cruiser USS Little Rock (CLG-4) underway on 8 November 1962.

Originally laid down as a Cleveland-class light cruiser during the Second World War, she was later converted into a guided missile cruiser. The aft gun turrets were removed and replaced with a Talos surface-to-air missile system, giving her a distinctly Cold War profile … sleek forward gun batteries and a heavy missile launcher dominating the stern.

Recommissioned in 1960, Little Rock served as flagship of the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean. Her 1962 service came at the height of Cold War tension, just weeks after the Cuban Missile Crisis, when missile-armed ships had become central to naval power projection.

Decommissioned in 1976, she avoided the scrapyard. Today she is preserved as a museum ship in Buffalo, New York, one of the few surviving examples of a missile-converted cruiser and the only Cleveland-class cruiser still afloat.
