Kurds Welcomes Korean Forces and Promises Full Cooperation
ARBIL -- It was confirmed Thursday that the Kurdish autonomous government recently sent a letter in the name of its leader to the Korean government, promising that they would lend its full support to the Korean forces dispatched to Iraq to use Arbil Airport. Accordingly, it is expected that the deployment of the Zayitun Unit will progress in full swing. The Korean government reiterated that it would not withdraw its dispatch plan.
According to a high-ranking official of the Kurdish Unified Parliamentary, the Kurdish autonomous government, which controls Arbil and Dohuk states, conveyed in a letter by Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani to the Korean delegates -- including the Korean ambassador to Iraq, Lim Hong-jae -- who visited Arbil on May 18 that the Kurdish government welcomes Korean forces and would actively help the forces use Arbil Airport when they are deployed.
The official said in the letter that the Kurdish autonomous government and the Kurdish Unified Parliamentary agreed to welcome the Korean dispatched forces and to offer their full support for the forces to use Arbil and Sulaimanijah Airports.
Prior to the letter, the Kurdish autonomous government and the Kurdish Unified Parliamentary had agreed to welcome Korean forces. The Kurdish Unified Parliament is composed of representatives from two parties: the Kurdistan Democratic Party ruling Arbil and Dohuk and the Patriotic Union of Kurd controlling Sulaimaniyah.
