More than six hundred specialists in information and communication systems, including the active reserve of the Agency for Communication and Information Systems (AKIS), completed the largest joint exercise of the joint army called Federated Cloud 2023 in Bechyna from April 12 to 28, 2023. The main task was to check the cooperation of the troops at the tactical and operational level using classified information systems according to the Federated Mission Networking (FMN) concept, a NATO initiative that optimizes command, control, decision-making and information sharing when allied troops are deployed.
No gunfire, tanks, planes or noise - just one power station. Only information silently flows through the control and command system, regardless of whether it is a Czech, Romanian, Slovak, Bulgarian or Croatian army. No war can be won without fast and reliably delivered information. Information superiority is the basis of superiority on the battlefield. Ukraine is the best example. The faster and more accurate the communication flow, the more fundamental the Czech army gains. In short, there is no command without communication, and even the best equipment and well-trained soldiers cannot defeat the enemy without up-to-date and accurate information.
"It is no longer about ordinary communication devices, but highly sophisticated technology, which must be used effectively," says Colonel Tomáš Kosík from the Ministry of Defense's communication and information systems section.
Originally a local exercise for signalmen, in eight years it grew into a prestigious international event. The joint forces of the Army of the Czech Republic and allies from Romania, Slovakia and Bulgaria verified mutual cooperation, compatibility and interoperability of current technologies. The organizer was the Communication and Information Systems Section of the Ministry of Defense and the subordinate agency AKIS.

The Czech Republic has successfully completed negotiations with the government of Sweden and vehicle manufacturer BAE Systems Hägglunds for the purchase of 246 CV90 MkIV infantry fighting vehicles.

The SEK 22 billion (approx. $2.2 billion) deal, signed at the IDET fair in Brno on May 24, will see BAE Systems deliver vehicles to the Czech Army in seven different variants.

The vehicles will be developed and delivered through an industrial partnership with Czech industry to meet the requirements of the Czech defense ministry and the intention of maintaining national sovereignty for the Czech Republic. The Czech industrial partners will be delivering 40 percent of the acquisition’s value in development, production and assembly contracts, not including VAT.

As reported in the press release, at today's government meeting, Defense Minister Jana Černochova was instructed to start negotiations on the possibility of joining Germany in the purchase of Leopard 2 tanks in the new 2A8 version, which is planned. It is believed that this will open the way for the Czech land forces to implement a state-of-the-art combat platform that will be compatible with other NATO armies.

In addition, the establishment of a joint procurement procedure with Germany expects the Czech side to significantly reduce the unit price, shorten deliveries and provide adequate logistical support. The Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic will now officially contact a representative of the German Ministry with a request to start negotiations on the conditions under which the Czech Republic can join the purchase planned by Germany. Available information suggests that other NATO member states are also considering a similar approach.

The helicopters of the Mi-24 series brought the Czechoslovak army a "pure-blooded" combat capability, especially against armored vehicles. At that time, they were equipped with powerful weapons, including guided missiles, and enabled the precise destruction of enemy equipment and, at the same time, much more effective support for ground units. The Mi-24 battle helicopter was and is a machine that commands truly deserved respect. However, the Russians themselves gave it the nickname "crocodile", while the Afghan Mujahideen called it "devil's carriage" during the Soviet-Afghan war of 1979-89. This legendary machine has served in the Czech Army for almost 45 years, this year it will be replaced by the American machines Venom and Viper.

Hot Blade 2023

About Blade 2023 – the most important international exercise of our helicopter pilots this year. Location: Portuguese Air Base No. 11 near Beja. Eight countries, 25 pieces of aviation equipment including subsonic and supersonic aircraft and seven different types of helicopters of western and eastern origin and about 750 people. In addition to our Portuguese and the native Portuguese, Slovaks, Austrians, Swiss, Belgians and also representatives of the Netherlands and Slovenia were there with equipment. The Army of the Czech Republic participated with a strong representation of three transport Mi-171ŠM and 4.5 crew from the 22nd base of the helicopter air force "Biskajská" from Náměšt nad Oslavou. For three weeks there were two of them in the air every day. For the Czech helicopter pilots, it was one of the longest overflights under their own power in our aviation history, approximately 2,500 km long, which they covered in two days.
