I see just incremental improvements of existing technologies with a head start during we lift you up to this point for ssles in China.
I am sceptical not because I believe we in the West are superhumans its because of the authoritarian nature and the need to deliver a "story".
And I believe still that key technologies come from western universities to this day.
China has the paper mills which fits nicely into all other" parameters" to show off.
We do realize advancements but its easy to get 80% but very hard to reach 100%.
They'll get to this point sooner or later.
Things I don't get is the internet always gives you some Chinese advancements info but nothing tangible only the huge scientific paper productions as reference but then this:
de.wikipedia.org
I asked people who tell me China is in our league what they can show for as an example then stuff like LED lights comes (Was a Japanes who then also got the Nobel prize for it in 1992) or technologies like solar inverters where Fraunhofer Institute had to constantly defend its HERIC architecture against copies.
Anyway I think only half is true and things like this add to my impression:
"This defensive posture transforms enterprises from conduits of wealth distribution into nodes of wealth retention. When companies prioritize survival over expansion, the gains recorded in national accounts fail to cascade down to workers and consumers. As a result, while the macroeconomic statistics continue to register growing activity, the microeconomic reality for households has stagnated."
