2 Infantry Battalion Veteran Association (Republic of Ireland Irish Military Veterans.)

Washington 2022 - Arlington Cemetery

Last Post salute to JFK,

remembering Georgie Gaynor & James Behan

and Wreath Laying Ceremony.

"The Association traveled to Washington DC as a group of 28 members for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. When we travel, we represent our Association, the best traditions of and also all Veterans the Defence Forces.

We had identified a number of visits to persons, events and locations for inclusion in our itinerary. The highlight event has to be the laying of a wreath at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by Congo Veterans, Gregory Leech and Honorary Life Member Thomas Gunn. On the day, we were delivered the ultimate honour, of allowing all our members onto the hallowed platform of the Tomb, normally reserved only for Royalty and Heads of State.

Again, a successful trip was led by our Chairman David Oleary, all Travel & Accommodation was sourced and managed by Dan O'Connell and Jim Brock to the very highest standards. I, researched and managed the visits and Ceremonial events but the overall success has to be shared by everyone on the trip and not excluding Gregory Leeches 3 daughters (Noreen, Marian and Kathleen) whom traveled separately from the group, these ladies were a great support to the group while we were engaged in the various events.
Last but by no means least, the man who allows our memories and visions to be shared is photographer John O'Byrne, John has traveled with us on many occasions and be it internationally or here at home, he delivers a fantastic array of shots that we wouldn’t think of taking with our phones, the clarity and colour in his work is truly “Nulli Secundus”.

Thanks to everyone who have been supportive of us."
