William Henry WHITE. Lance Corporal, 24587, 15th Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). Born 1893, Husband of Lauria Bernell White, nee Webberley of 5, Springfield Gardens, Ilkeston. He was married 20 June 1915 at Holy Trinity Church, Ilkeston.
He enlisted into the army 24 March 1915 at Ilkeston aged 22 years and 5 months, occupation, collier, after he had completed his training, he was posted to BEF in France 1 February 1916. He was promoted to Lance Corporal in the field 15 July 1917. He was admitted to hospital in the field 23 May 1918, transferred to No 35 General Hospital, Calais, France suffering from aortic regurgitation. 11 June 1918 he was invalided to England on Belgium steam ship Ville de Liege and admitted 12 June into Military Heart Hospital, Colchester. He was on a Medical Board 21 June 1918 where he was discharged physically unfit for war service due to his disability, aortic regurgitation. Discharged from the army 17 July 1918 and died 19 January 1919 aged 26 years. His widow residing at 43A Burr Lane, Ilkeston was given a sum of £10. 6s.3d has been advanced by the War Pension Committee, Town Hall, Ilkeston.
