Captain Walter Clarkson MUMFORD. M.C Irish Guards.

Born 9 November 1886 to George Wright and Laura Anne Kitchen Mumford nee Clarkson. 1891 residing with his parents and siblings at 9 Packfield Road, Toxeth Park, Liverpool. 1901 with his parents and siblings at Oakfield, Little Woolton, Lancashire. Husband of Sibell Alice Morgan who he married 8 May 1924 at Holy Trinity Church, Brompton, London. At the time of his marriage he was Captain in the Irish Guards Special Reserve and residing at Davies Hotel, Brompton Square, London. Died 22 November 1959. He retired to live at Sugwas Court, Herefordshire. Wounded in the leg during the first World War. He was known to Rudyard Kipling who mentions him in several of his books and letters.

For conspicuous gallantry in action. On two separate occasions he found himself in command of his company early in the day and each time displayed great pluck and initiative.

This memorial flag was on display at the World Fallen (Temporary) Memorial on the 11 November 2018 at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire
