Viipuri 20th June 1944

Soviet troops marching to empty town of Viipuri 20th June 1944. Soviet photo.
Viipuri was at the time the second largest city in Finland, so loosing it was a big shock for finns. You can imagine how you would feel if your country looses it's second largest city. Many countries were occupied during WWII or fell under communist rule, but mostly those nations finally kept their cities. Viipuri is today Russian city. My grandmother was evacuated from there, it's place of her childhood. When i look photos of Viipuri or when i visited there, i can immediately see it's finnish city (architecture), so it makes me sad it's lost, but that's history. I just hope russians could keep Viipuri in good condition.
