Born 31 January 1902 at Quintin near Portaferry County Down to John and Margaret Chermside nee McCormick at 10 Newcastle, Quintin County Down.. Irish 1911 census with his parents and siblings at 5 Newcastle, Quintin County Down.
Shot along with Special Constable Thomas R Cunningham whilst on foot patrol in May Street Belfast 23 March 1922 aged 20 years They were both shot dead at close range by an IRA gunman.
At rest in Ballyphilip Catholic Churchyard, Portaferry, Northern Ireland
