SEATON, John Thomas, Lance Corporal (CWGC have Corporal) 17/945, 17th Northumberland Fusiliers, N.E.R.(North Eastern Railway) Pioneers) killed in action 12th November 1917 aged 29, He was the son of William Henry and Annie of Tocketts Mill, Guisborough, Yorkshire. Native of Marske, Yorkshire. He is commemorated on his parents memorial in Guisborough Cemetery, Yorkshire and he is at rest in Bard Cottage Cemetery, Belgium. Two of his brothers also joined up and survived the war. Arthur William enlisted into the Machine Gun Corps as Private 1847 and was demobilized on the 1st March 1919. Robert joined the 2/0th Scottish Rifles and was later promoted to Lance Corporal 235389, In 1917 he was transferred to the 4th King's Own Scottish Borderers. He was demobilized 12th February 1919
The 17th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (17 NF) was raised by the North Eastern Railway at Hull in September 1914 and became a Pioneer battalion in January 1915. In June 1915 the battalion moved to Catterick where it joined 32nd Division as the divisional pioneer battalion.
