This member of SEAL Team 8 is carrying an M14 7.62mm rifle which has been modified with the addition of a rather novel vertical hand grip. Not sure where this occurred but it is reported to have been taken during Operation Desert Storm. (Photo via Ian McCollum)
No, I think it is fair to say that the SEALs are pretty serious when it comes to bearing arms in the Middle East. He may have been part of a team which went after Iraqi oil platforms during the War. That 7.62mm would give him a lot better range than the standard 5.56mm found in the M16 platforms, a quality that would be pretty handy in the long ranges found in maritime settings.
