Samuel SLOAN. Chief Engineer Officer 145413, Merchant Navy on S.S. Orlock Head (Belfast). Born 14 July 1878 to John and Sarah Sloan, nee Gilt of 35 Dundee Street, Belfast. 8 January 1902 he married Elizabeth Johnston at Knock Methodist Church, Belfast. His occupation, marine engineer, resided at 109 Castlereagh Road, Belfast. His wife resided at 42 Upper Meadow Street, Belfast. At date not known he resided with his family at 88 Onslow Parade, Belfast. 1911 residing with his family at 2 Titania Street, Belfast. 1934 he is wife passed away; date not known, he remarried to Helena O’Ryan.

Last known place of resided at 376 Woodstock Road, Belfast. Died 28 July 1940 age 61 as the result of war wounds received of bombing by enemy aircraft. The British coaster Orlock Head, owned by the Ulster SS Co, Belfast (G. Heyn) was bombed and set on fire by German aircraft on 28 July 1940 and sank later off the north coast of Scotland
