2nd Lieutenant 493598 Robert Irwin LONG, 11th Craigavon Battalion.
Resided at Regents Park, Lurgan. He is at rest in Church of Ireland Soldiers Town Cemetery, Aghalee, County Armagh. Grave C1
He is commemorated on a Tree Memorial plaque at the UDR Memorial, C G C, Ulster Ash Grove, National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas Staffordshire.
He is commemorated on the War Memorial, Church Place Lurgan, County Armagh

He was shot dead by the PIRA while driving his car along Lake Street past Kilwilkie Estate, Lurgan, County Armagh on the 8th November 1972 aged 29 on his way to his mother-in-laws home when he was hit by a burst of gunfire. He was taken to hospital with a head wound where he passed away two hours later. He had been previously stopped by an armed PIRA patrol in July while in uniform and told that he should get out of the country immediately
