MACHIN John Egber

Lieutenant John Egbert MACHIN,123rd Squadron Royal Air Force killed while flying at Cambridge,On the 29 May 1918, 24. He was the husband Elizabeth, of John St, Biddulph. He was born on the 16th September 1893 to John Thomas and Mary Elizabeth nee Sutton of 51 Congleton Road, Biddulph. London Gazette dated 12th March 1918

He is at rest in St Lawrence Churchyard, Biddulph. Staffordshire
His brother Charles Reginald,student in training, joined the army 26th February 1916 aged 20 yrs and 198 days, as Private 5975 66th East Lancs Regiment then transferred to the Manchester as Private 302208 8th Manchester Regiment Mobilised 25th February 1916 Embarked 11th January 1917 at Devonport for Alexandria disembarked on the 3rd March 1917. Embarked Alexandria on the 27th January for France disembarked at Marseilles on the 10th March 1917. 6th November 1917 shot in the face, treated at 36 Casualty Clearing Station the transferred on the 8th November to 83rd General Hospital and on the 16th November 1917 invalided to England on Ship St Andrew. Location in England not recorded. He was discharged to Class P on 9th July 1918 for employment with the Education Comm Staffs.
