Joseph Thomas BRENCHLEY. Chief Stoker 160049 Royal Navy of H.M.S. Lancaster (DoB taken from his naval record. 6th April 1872) at Sheerness, Kent, Son of Edward John Brenchley and Mary Ann nee Betson. In 1891 he was living with his father and siblings at 8 Clarence Cottages, Sherness, occupation, general labourer. Enlisted 13th April 1891, occupation prior to enlistment, labourer. He married Anne Sharp in 1900 at Sheppey, Kent. 1901 census shows he was married aged 29, Leading Stoker 1st Class on HMS Pioner in Bighi Bay, Grand Harbour, Malta Died 5th February 1911 aged 38 at the Royal Naval Hospital, Malta of rheumatism and myocardial oedema. His widow (Anne nee Sharp) was informed of his death 7th February 1911.His widow and child, Anne Elizabeth Brenchley aged 8 months were living at 114 Hope Street, Sheerness in 1911.
