John THOMPSON. Private PLY/15927. 2nd Royal Marine Battalion, Royal Marine Light Infantry
Born 3 June 1895 in Belfast to William Robert and Jane Thompson, nee Coleman of 11 James Street, Belfast. Irish 1901 census. Residing with his parents and siblings at 53 Urney Street, Woodvale, Belfast Ireland. 1911 his parents and siblings were residing at 16 Pernau Street, Shankill Belfast Ireland. He was not found in 1911

Enlisted in Belfast 26 November 1912 aged 17 years and 5 months. He was posted to Royal Marine Depot, Deal Kent. Transferred to Plymouth Division 25 September 1913. Embarked on HMS Cumberland 18 May 1914. Transferred to HMS Challenger 5 December 1914. Then HMS Astrea. Embarked with RM Brigade on HMS Victory 17 June 1915.
12 July 1918 Transferred to Plymouth Depot. Devon, invalided out 3 August 1918.
Date not known he became a Prisoner of War in Germany.

Posting. 24 October 1915 to 6 January 1916 Mediterranean Expeditionary Force.
7 January 1916 to 27 April 1917 B.E.F. France.

Enlisted under age from 26 November 1912 to 2 June 1913 189 days.

Died at 31 Pernau Street, Shankill Belfast 18 November 1918 age 24 years pulmonary tuberculosis and which he had for 6 months and cardiac failure. His cousin Agnes Morton was presents at death. Status, Naval pensioner.
Spec. Memorial. At rest somewhere in Shankill Graveyard, Belfast, Northern Ireland.
