Samuel Todd Patterson at the time of his marriage, 27 December 1917 at Newtownards was serving as Private, 8th Royal Irish Rifles, residence 15 Jocelyn Street, Belfast and his bride was residing at 17 Well Street, Belfast.
Notes from the army record of Samuel Todd Patterson -
He enlisted 10 September 1914 aged 19 years and 7 months. Resided at Ballymacarett, East Belfast, and worked as an apprentice boiler maker in Belfast shipyard. Part of his training he was at Ballykinlar Camp. 6 March 1915 whilst at the camp he was charged with, 1. Drunk, disorderly and creating a disturbance in camp about 10-15pm, (2215 hrs). 2. Attempting to strike an N.C.O. 3. Damaging barrack room. He was sentenced by Major W C Hall, 8th Royal Irish Rifles was 5 day confined to barracks (C.B.) stoppage and pay for damages. On the completion of his training, he embarked to join the BEF in France 2 October 1915. 15 March 1916 he was awarded 5 days Field punishment No 2 for being late on parade. 16 June 1916 he was posted the Base Depot, Le Havre for embarkation to the regimental depot in England. 26 June 1916 he was released from military duty for munition work with Messrs Workman Clark and Co, Belfast Shipyard. He was discharged from the army 14 December 1918.
