James Wilson McMORDIE. 2nd Lieutenant 9th Kings Shropshire Light Infantry attached to 2nd Bn. King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.
Born 20 January 1897 at Killinchy Woods to Francis and Agnes Elizabeth Gordon McMordie, nee Gordon of Killinchy Woods, Crossgar County Down. Irish 1901 census. With his parents and siblings at 1. Killinchy Woods. Irish 1911 census His widowed mother and his sister Nina were residing at 13 Killinchy Woods. For the same period he was two sisters and a brother at 17 Stranmillis Gardens, Belfast Ireland. The census shows the head Agnes Maria McMordie as the mother and the remainder as daughter and sons.
At the time of his death his mother was residing at 30 South Parade, Ormeau Road, Belfast.
Killed in action at Beaumont, Hamel France 18 November 1916 aged 20. His mother was granted a gratuity 23 February 1918.
Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. He is also commemorated on a family grave in Kilmore Presbyterian Churchyard, County Down.
