James Johnson McKERNAN. Mentioned in Despatches. Rifleman 5699, C. Coy 5th Royal Irish Rifles. Born 20 November 1898 at 4 Abbott Street, Belfast. 1911 residing with his parents and siblings at 15 Convention Street, Belfast.
Killed in action on the Somme, France 9 September 1916 aged 17. His father was granted a war gratuity 7 March 1917.
Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
Thomas Henry McKERNAN. Sergeant, 8/13162, D. Coy 8th Royal Irish Rifles. Born 3 October 1897 at at 33 Ivanhoe Street, Belfast. 1911 residing with his parents and siblings at 15 Convention Street, Belfast. Killed in action in France 30 November 1916 aged 21. His parents were granted a joint war gratuity 3 September 1917, revised 7 November 1919.
At rest in La Plus Douve Annexe, Ration Farm, Hainaut, Belgium.

Commemorated on their parents’ memorial in Plot F4. Grave 730 at Dundonald Cemetery, Dundonald, Northern Ireland
