HARDWARE James, Sergeant 64113, 255th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, killed in action 24th April 1918 aged 32.

He was the son of Joseph and Mary and was the husband of Hannah of 3, Carlton Terrace, Aldersley Road, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton. He was native of Tettenhall. He is commemorated in his wife\'s memorial in Bentley Cemetery, Willenhall, Staffordshire and is at rest in Boves West Communal Cemetery, Somme, France. On the 31st October 1915 he joined up aged 29 years and 140 days. He was employed as a groundsman and living with his wife Hannah, nee Hadlen at 3, Carlton Terrace. They were married on the 5th June 1915 at Wolverhampton Registry Office.

On the 31st October 1915 he was posted as Gunner to No1 Depot, Royal Garrison Artillery, on the 10th November 1915 posted to No38, Company, Royal Garrison Artillery and he was promoted to acting sergeant on the 28th March 1917 with 38th Company.

On the 15th May 1917 he was posted to 430th Siege Battery. He embarked Folkestone on the 8th September 1917 and disembarked at Boulogne the same day.

The same day he was promoted to sergeant, and on the 6th October 1917 he was transferred to 255th Siege Battery. he was killed in action whilst serving with 255th Siege Battery and he was laid to rest in Boves West Communal Cemetery about 4 miles east of Aimers.
